Mitipi Recognized at the European Level with Kevin

Fribourg, Switzerland – The young company Mitipi, based at the Bluefactory in Fribourg, has won the European Security Award 2024 for the most innovative anti-burglary solution with its Swiss security box Kevin.

For the past three years, Mitipi has been developing and marketing its Kevin security system from the Bluefactory in Fribourg. The company was relocated from Zurich to Fribourg by Patrick Cotting to leverage the proximity to the Smart Living Lab for technology advancement and to conquer international markets. To achieve this, Cotting established a subsidiary in Berlin for the EU market and another in Santa Clara, California, for the US market. He also secured technology rights and patents for both regions and protected the Kevin brand internationally.

Kevin simulates human presence through sounds, moving shadows, and light effects, and can be personalized for each user to provide optimal burglary protection. The Kevin brand and the concept of the security box are inspired by the popular Christmas classic Home Alone, where a clever boy deters burglars by simulating presence.

Mitipi’s success is also evident in its home market of Switzerland, where thousands of houses and apartments are already protected by Kevin. Recently, the system was featured not only on the prime-time Tagesschau news broadcast on Swiss television SRF but also on the HeuteMorgen radio program on Swiss Radio SRF, highlighting its national significance.

To support international expansion, Mitipi has recently appointed two experienced board members from the United States: Jorge Tapias, who was Director of Partnerships and Business Development at Google and played a key role in the integration of Motorola and the launch of Google Nexus, and Matt DiMarsico, the former Head of Marketing and Sales for Ricoh and British Telecom in the USA, who brings extensive experience in sales and distribution.
